Don’t worry; I’m not skipping Thanksgiving…
I’m just making sure I’m giving you plenty of time to make arrangements to join in on the fun! This is just another fun and unique activity that is offered yearly at Possum Kingdom Lake that I wanted to make sure you knew about.
Make plans to participate or watch the 2nd Annual Lighted Boat Parade.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, December 2nd, at dusk. The parade route will begin at Bluff Creek Marina, then travel to the Harbor and around Hell’s Gate before returning to the marina. Anyone with a decorated Christmas boat is encouraged to join the parade or watch as everyone floats by.
An award ceremony will be held at the Bluff Creek Marina ship store following the parade, and prizes will be given out for the first, second and third place boats. Don’t have a boat? Don’t fret! You can participate in the Ugly Sweater Contest or the Most Christmassy outfit.
This event is designed for everyone to enjoy!
Be sure to head over to Lush afterward to keep the fun going with family and friends while enjoying Christmas drink specials.
Not sure how to decorate your boat for Christmas? Here a few tips to get you started!
- Build on your boat’s strengths. If you have a speedboat, create a horizontal design while vertical is better for sailboats.
- Think about how you want onlookers to see the design. If you have words written, only half the spectators may see it while inflatables are seen from all around the boat.
- Since you don’t have walls to tack your decorations to, use wire ties or duct tape.
- Want to spell something out? Use chicken wire. String the lights to the wire and then staple it to a wood frame that can be secured to the boat using halyards, lines, blocks, and integral boat structures such as outriggers, masts, booms, and spinnaker poles.
